Disc Golf: Putting – Put That Plastic In The Basket
Put That Plastic In The Basket
The single most important part of any disc-golfers game is putting. From beginner to grand master, everyone’s game benefits from solid, consistent putting. Putting can be the most frustrating aspect of anyone’s game, but the secret to low scores EVERY round is good putting. Everyone wants to bomb those 400 or 500 foot drives, but if you can’t hit your putts on a regular basis then your score card will be dominated by bogeys. My goal here is to give you confidence in your putting and begin to throw pars and birdies.
I found a few videos on YouTube from The Pros at Discraft that can improve ANYONE’S putting. Take a few minutes to watch these excellent instructonal tools and I assure you, your putting will improve. I personally have shaved MANY strokes from my rounds by using the tips I’ve found in these videos.
Scott Papa is the editor of Discgolfer Magazine. He walks you through putting form, weight transfer, the “fan” grip, release point to help you with disc golf’s most important shot, the putt.
These four Discraft Pros discuss those longer putts for those times when you don’t park your drive or approach. This explains several different putting styles, such as the “jump” putt.
Once you have the style and form you want to use for putting, the most important aspect of putting comes into play, consistency! You need confidence to become confident. Disc golf’s most famous coach Mark Ellis walks us through a program to attain these skills in another excellent Discraft instructional video. (note : Mark spends more than a couple of minutes doing his best Tony Robbins imitation to drive home his point but it’s worth your time to watch all 21 minutes of this video)
Now Here’s a putt I see a few people using. I don’t like it one little bit but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. It’s a short clip anyway. Also, check the link in the comments below for the “Bi-Moto Method, which is a two handed version of this putt.
Okay, now that you watched these videos you should have a fairly good grasp of putting. I have found that it never hurts to watch those first two videos frequently. I encourage you to bookmark this article and watch them at least once a week, right before you go out to play. Good luck and low scores my friends. Now go throw some discs!
